News Americas, MEXICO CITY, Mexico, Weds. July 27, 2011: Seventeen people in a prison in Mexico were killed late Monday night after clashes there.
A spokesman for the city’s prisons told the BBC that one group of inmates attacked rivals from another drug gang using weapons they had seized from prison guards on Monday night, resulting in the deaths.
Another four were injured in the attack in the city of Ciudad Juarez.
He said they used weapons they had seized from prison guards. It took security forces several hours to regain control.
Ciudad Juarez, which borders the United States, is one of the world’s most violent cities.
