News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Mon. Nov. 12, 2018: The women’s 2018 US Open champion can now add another title to her resume – that of Goodwill Ambassador of her father’s Caribbean homeland of Haiti.

Naomi Osaka, the Japanese-Haitian tennis star who beat Serena Williams in the September Open, wraps up a five-day tour of Haiti today, accompanied by her dad, and was given the title by President Jovenel Moise for the promotion of Haitian sports.

Moise also presented her with plaque on behalf of the Republic of Haiti at a reception in her honor was held at the Haitian Prime Minister’s residence.

Osaka, born to a Japanese mother and a Haitian father, also received the key of the city of Jacmel. She was warmly welcomed to Haiti on Nov. 8th with many Haitian fans crowded in at the airport where she arrived by private jet.

Haiti Minister of Foreign Affairs Edmond Bocchit tweeted that Osaka “is an inspiration for the young Haitian tennis players.” Here are some of the highlights from her trip.
