News Americas, MEXICO CITY, Mexico, Fri. Aug. 26, 2011: The number of journalists killed in Mexico wrote to 59 Thursday after an abducted journalist was found shot dead north of Culiacan, in northwestern Sinaloa state.
Humberto Millan Salazar, 53, who edited an online newspaper and presented a news program on local radio, had been kidnapped by armed men on Wednesday as he was leaving his house in a residential area of Culiacan.
The killing of Salazar comes less than a month after crime reporter Yolanda Ordaz de la Cruz was found dead.
The state of Sinaloa is the power base of the Sinaloa drug cartel, considered to be the most powerful criminal organization in the country.
