News Americas, SANTIAGO, Chile, Tues. Sept. 26, 2011: Another blackout hit the northern portions of Chile Monday, just days after the country suffered consecutive outages.
Chile suffered a blackout on Saturday which left more than half of the country’s 17 million people in the dark. Then on Sunday, a blackout hit around Chile’s port city of Valparaiso.
On Monday, much of northern Chile lost power. The reasons remain unclear, but failures in the transmission grid are suspected, prompting t Energy Minister Rodrigo Alvarez to call for strong new investments in the country’s energy network.
