News Americas, NASSAU, Bahamas, Sun. Aug. 28, 2011: As of noon today, August 28th, the Bahamas says it will re-open for business following the passage of Hurricane Irene across the islands.
Minister of Tourism and Aviation, Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace said “All main arteries to and from the airports are cleared so we declared ourselves ‘open for business’ as of midday today.”
All 28 government-owned and operated airports, including the 16 international airports are open and operating, Vanderpool-Wallace said.
As far as damages, the minister said most resorts suffered only minor cosmetic damage and some of the smaller ones will remain closed for the near term.
Bahamas was hit by Irene on Thursday and most of the outer islands suffered more damages but no deaths have been reported.
