The famed Jamaican fashion icon, turned author and film producer, was on Monday, October 15th, conferred with the Order of Jamaica (OJ) by the Governor General of Jamaica, Sir Patrick Allen, at Kings House in Kingston.
Wearing a colorful wide brimmed hat Jones curtsied as she was conferred with the fifth highest national honor of Jamaica for her exceptional contribution to the field of entertainment internationally.
She received a ringing round of applause from the hundreds in attendance at the 2018 National Honors and Awards Ceremony.
During a recent media interview with JIS News, Jones expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Jamaica for the award.
“I am excited. It is a great honor. I love Jamaica so much, which makes it even better. This award is very special,” she was quoted as saying.
Jones was born in Spanish Town but left Jamaica at age 12. She shot to fame as a model for famous fashion houses like Yves St Laurent and Kenzo. She then made the covers of Elle and Vogue.
Jones then began signing. As a sultry singer, her albums have included ‘Warm Leatherette,’ ‘Nightclubbing’ and ‘Slave to the Rhythm.’
The Jamaican national also became an actress and appeared in the James Bond movie ‘A View to a Kill’ and ‘Boomerang’ with Eddie Murphy, Halle Barry and Robin Givens.
She once dated Dolph Lundgren, who last week revealed that sex orgies with Jones left him too exhausted for work.
