News Americas Now, New York, Mon. May 8, 2017: Neil Parmanand has been awarded the 2016-2017 Canada Hall Scholarship.
The Canada Hall Scholarship of US$2,000 is tenable at the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad and is for students who live on Canada Hall. Built from funds donated by the Canadian Government, Canada Hall was opened in 1963, and named after the donor Government. Originally the Hall housed 192 students – 32 rooms per floor. The facilities were modified in 1989 to provide kitchenettes and this reduced the number of rooms per floor to 28 and a total available occupancy of 168 students.
Permanand is a 2nd year student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Studies in the Faculty of Social Studies. He is a graduate of A.S. J.A. Boy’s College, a Muslim high school located in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. His hobbies include cricket and listening to music and he ultimately wants to open his own business.
The Canada Hall Scholarship was established in 2013 and is funded by contributions from Canada Hall alumni in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and Jamaica. The scholarship is managed by The American Foundation for the University of The West Indies and was founded by a group of Canada Hall alumni. These alumni studied at the St. Augustine campus of the University of The West Indies in Trinidad & Tobago.
