News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Sept. 7, 2018: A Caribbean-born Hollywood actress has been tapped for a lead role in the NBC’s drama pilot, ‘The Village.’
Trinidad-born actress, Lorraine Toussaint, is set to star in the drama written and executive produced by Mike Daniels and directed by Minkie Spiro. Toussaint will play Patricia, a warm, vivacious grandmother figure and social worker who, unable to have her own children, became a caretaker for everyone else in “The Village,” where despite differences in age, race, culture and lifestyle, the residents of a Manhattan apartment building find that the more their lives intertwine, the more complex and compelling their connections become.
Toussaint, 58, played the role of Yvonne “Vee” Parker, the main antagonist in the second season of the Netflix comedy-drama series ‘Orange Is the New Black, ‘for which she received critical acclaim and a Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She later played the role of Amelia Boynton Robinson in the 2014 historical drama film, Selma, directed by Ava DuVernay. Toussaint has also starred in Rosewood and on the NBC legal drama Chicago Justice and as a series regular in the third season of Into the Badlands.
One of Toussaint’s grandparents was from Haiti, while the other was from Martinique.
