But while many have reported on the obvious – the performances by Shaggy and Rihanna as well as Puerto Rican singers Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi and wins by Rihanna and Damian Marley, lost in the excitement is the fact that there were several other Caribbean roots artists who also won big – especially Puerto Rico-roots Bruno Mars who swept up the major wins including Album of the Year and Song of the Year. So while we celebrate this ‘Caribbean’ win, we also wanted to highlight the net worth of some of these Caribbean-born and Caribbean-roots artists from Grammy 2018. Here are the numbers you should know:

While Barbados-born superstar Rihanna left many talking after rocking the steps to South Africa’s popular gwara gwara dance and winning another Grammy for her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar, the singer is hands down one of the Caribbean’s richest superstars – inside and out. Rihanna’s net worth is estimated at $230 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth and that could grow a lot higher this year given all of the many business ventures the singer turned actress and entrepreneur has her hands in.

Peter Gene Hernandez, known professionally as Bruno Mars, was born in Hawaii but his roots goes to Puerto Rico. His father, whom he paid tribute to at the Grammys, is of half Puerto Rican and half Ashkenazi Jewish descent (from Ukraine and Hungary), and is originally from Brooklyn, New York.  Of course by now everyone knows Mars swept the Grammys winning Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year but what many may now know is his net worth. Puerto Rico-born Daddy Yankee heated up the night with Luis Fonsi on ‘Despacito’ but this Latin Hip Hop artist’s is also heating things up financially. Daddy Yankee, who was born Ramon Luis Ayala Rodriguez, has a net worth of some 30 million according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Kingston-born Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley, the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley, took home his fourth reggae Grammy Sunday night, much to the surprise of some fans but this singer is also climbing the financial ladder on his own with a reported net worth of US$20 million.

5: Luis Fonsi
