Calypso Rose Releases Amazing Grace Collabo

Calypso icon, Calypso Rose, has released a collaboration with Tim Armstrong and The Interrupters. It’s a cover of the iconic gospel song “Amazing Grace and it is out via the Coachella organization.

Caribbean Born Jazz Maestro Turns 75

Caribbean born jazz maestro, Monty Alexander, turned 75 on D-Day this week, June 5, 2019. The Kingston, Jamaican jazz musician continues a hectic schedule in the Netherlands and the UK this weekend.

Alexander, who has five decades of performances and more than 70 CDs under his belt, began his musical career at age four by playing Christmas carols by ear, was in 2018 presented with the DLitt distinction at the Kingston Jamaica UWI Mona Campus by Chancellor Robert Bermudez.

Reggae Billboard Chart

This week’s Reggae Billboard Chart topper is none other than Collie Buddz. Buddz, an American/Bermudian reggae artist best known for his single “Come Around,” debuted at number one on the chart with his new self-produced album, Hybrid. The album features such tracks as “Legal Now,” ‘Bank’ and ‘Love & Reggae.

Buju Banton Headlines List Of Top Artists For Reggae Sumfest

This July marks the 27th anniversary of Reggae Sumfest, Jamaica’s iconic music festival, set for Montego Bay from July 17-22, 2019. The star-studded line-up on Festival Nights 1 & 2 will include global reggae sensation Buju Banton, dancehall veterans Beenie Man and Bounty Killer, as well as Chronixx, Spice, Spragga Benz, Elephant Man, Protégé, Beres Hammond, and more.

This year the festival offers a 7-night line-up of events as follows:

July 14 – Mornin’ Medz Brunch Party

July 15 – Street Dance Party

July 16 – All White Party

July 17 – Blitz All Black Party / Bunji Garlin’s Birthday Celebration

July 18 – Global Sound Clash

July 19 – Festival Night 1

Reggae At Central Park Summerstage

Elephant Man, Junior Reid, Estelle and Raging Fyah are some of the VP Records artists set for this year’s Central Park SummerStage.

The event, New York’s largest free outdoor preforming arts festival, is set for this August 10, 2019 from 6 10 p.m.

 Koffee Signs With CAA

CAA has signed Jamaican reggae singer, rapper and guitarist Koffee for representation in North and South America.

The 19-year-old artist released her first EP titled Rapture on March 14. The five-song album has already garnered 20 million streams on Spotify and features single “Toast,” which appeared in Jordan Peele’s 2019 thriller Us.   

Romain Virgo Among Top Caribbean Acts For Culturefest

Reggae star Romain Virgo along with Tanto Metro and Devonte as well as soca stars Skinny Fabulous and Patrice are among the top performers set for Culturefest in Maryland this weekend, June 9th. Get tickets here.

Sister Carol, Shanto For 30th Tribute To The Ancestors

Reggae star Sister Carol along with the Shanto group are some of the performers slated to mark this year’s 30th anniversary of the Tribute to the Ancestors. The event is set for tomorrow, June 8th from noon to 6 p.m. at the Coney Island Boardwalk, Brooklyn, NY. The event is hosted by The People of the Sun Tribute to the Ancestors of the Middle Passage.
