Caribbean Artist For Coachella

Famed Caribbean-born Calypsonian, Calypso Rose, is set to make her Coachella debut.

Billboard reports indicate Rose, 79, will make history as the oldest artist and the first calypsonian to be booked for a full set at the event. Rose, born Linda McArtha Monica Sandy-Lewis in Tobago, will perform on the Gobi Stage this evening, Friday, April 12th and Friday, April 19th from 5:25-6:15 p.m. She will be backed by an eight-piece band comprised of African, American, Caribbean and French musicians.

‘Guava Island’ Coming to Amazon This Weekend

Tomorrow, Sat. April 13th at 12:01 a.m. pacific, ‘Guava Island,’ the new Childish Gambino film featuring Rihanna, is reportedly set to arrive on Amazon Prime.

The movie is described as a “tropical thriller” and was written by Glover’s brother Stephen. According to Vanity Fair, it was inspired by City of God and Purple Rain. It’s directed by Glover’s “Atlanta” collaborator Hiro Murai. The film also stars Black Panther’s Letitia Wright. The film, released in partnership with New Regency and Amazon Studios, will also air at Coachella in a “specially constructed theater built for the event” from tonight, April 12th until the end of the festival, Billboard reports. After 9 p.m. Eastern on the Saturday, the film will be available only to Amazon Prime Video customers.

Dancehall Greats For Miami Show

Jamaican dancehall greats Shabba Ranks and Super Cat are set to headline the 13th annual Best of the Best concert, slated for May 26th at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami, Florida.

Others on the lineup include Frisco Kid, General Degree and General B and Bushman.  

Tickets for Best of the Best are on sale via the event’s website with early bird prices available through May 1st.

Jah Cure Teams Up With Damian Marley

Jah Cure has teamed up with Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley for his next single, Marijuana,’ on the VP Records label. The single is being released on April 19th, just in time for 4/20. Jah Cure and Marley will reportedly be supporting 4/20 parties around the U.S., providing patrons with limited edition Marijuana rolling papers, posters, and more.

It’s Koffee And Buju Banton For Trinidad Show

Rising Reggae Star Koffee is among the artists added to the Buju Banton ‘I Am Legend Show,’ at the Queen’s Park Savannah in Trinidad on April 21st.

The 19-year-old Koffee has been making waves, including grabbing the top spot of the Billboard Reggae chart. The T&T lineup also includes Banton and the Shiloh Band of course as well as Ziggy Rankin, Kes the Band, Luciano, Wayne Wonder, Singing Melody and the group, LUST.
