DJ Khaled’s Reggae Collabos
DJ Khaled’s new album, “Father of Asahd,” is out and features some of reggae and dancehalls most stellar musicians including on a track titled “Holy Mountain.”
In addition to Movado, Buju Banton, and Sizzla, the album features 070 Shake. In “Holy Mountain,” Buju Banton sings the lyrics: “Right through the gates of hell / Wait that wretched soul that live a life of evil, out of control / Tormented soul, tormented soul, go away / Go away, go away from me / Take them away, Father, take them away, ooh / Right through the gates of Hell / We power over darkness and light.”
Banton is also featured on the album’s last single entitled “Holy Ground.” A music video for “Holy Mountain” was created by DJ Khaled earlier in 2019 with portions shot in August Town, the home of Sizzla.
The UK is Now Rihanna’s New Home
Rihanna is now calling the UK home. The Barbados-born star revealed to The New York Times recently that she moved to London earlier this year.
The move reportedly is so she can be closer to the team working on Fenty, which is designed in Paris and manufactured in Italy.”
Spike Lee Film Starring Guyanese Actors Now On Netflix
The Spike Lee film directed by Guyanese roots director Stefon Bristol and starring Guyanese-born actors Ron Bobb-Semple and Courtney Noel, is now currently streaming globally on Netflix. The sci-fi drama ‘See You Yesterday,’ recently premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.
It tells the story of high school best friends and science prodigies, C.J. and Sebastian, who spend every spare minute working on their latest homemade invention: backpacks that enable time travel. But when C.J.’s older brother Calvin dies after an encounter with police officers, the young duo decides to put their unfinished tech to use in a desperate bid to save Calvin.
The cast includes Eden Duncan-Smith, Danté Crichlow, Marsha Stephanie Blake, Brian “Stro” Bradley, Johnathan Nieves, Wavyy Jonez and Myra Lucretia Taylor.
Sean Paul, J Balvin On the Tonight Show
Jamaican Grammy-winning reggae star, Sean Paul, performed this week on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon along with J. Balvin, the Colombian reggaeton singer. Balvin appeared as both an interview and musical guest on the May 20th edition of the show and then took to the stage to perform with Sean Paul.
Billboard Reggae Chart
British reggae music group, The Skints, have taken the number one spot on the Billboard Reggae chart this week with their album Swimming Lessons. The album was released on May 10th. The Skints mix reggae, ska, dub, punk rock, dancehall, soul, and hip hop, touring extensively across the UK, Europe and the United States.
Buju Banton New Music
As Buju Banton gets ready to play Bermuda on August 17th, the singer has released a new roots song called “Country For Sale.”
