News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Feb. 9, 2018: Three junior monarchs have been crowned in Trinidad. Duane Ta’Zyah O’Connor is the 2018 Junior Calypso Monarch, while Desle Julien and Sergio Camejo tied for first place in the Junior Soca Monarch competition.

O’Connor, the 15-year-old St Mary’s College pupil and son of former National Calypso Monarch Duane O’Connor, sang “Man of Integrity” to emerge on top of 15 other young calypsonians vying for the title.

The junior monarchs are sure to be part of the bacchanal festivities that will be sure to mark this weekend ahead of Carnival Monday on Feb. 12th and Carnival Tuesday on Feb. 13th.

The soca monarch finals is set for Feb. 9th.

On Monday, soca start Machel Montano will present ‘Machel Monday’ for the eighth year. This year’s theme is the Soca Kingdom and will feature performances from Super Blue, Iwer George, Patrice Roberts, Voice, Shal Marshall, Skinny Fabulous, Destra Garcia, Nadia Batson, Nailah Blackman, Olatunji, Erphaan Alves, Preedy, Lil Natty x Thunda, Lyrikal, Turner, Marge Blackman, Motto, M1, Marzville, Problem Child, Ravi B x Karma, Nishard M & Neval Chatelal and Exodus Steel.
