News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Sept. 8, 2017: Last week we told you that the Caribbean’s biggest stars had pitched in donations to help the Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Yet with an estimated 10 dead across the Caribbean and billions in damage from Hurricane Irma, neither has offered a peep on their social network where they are most active.
Not a word yet from neither Trinidad-born rapper Nicki Minaj or Barbados superstar Rihanna – at least as of press time last night. Instead both were active on Twitter promoting their latest ventures and selling their latest products to fans.
We hope they will have a change of heart and show at least some heart for the region of their birth!
This Actor Is Vowing To Rebuild On Barbuda
Antigua & Barbuda’s prime minister says the island of Barbuda is “uninhabitable” with 95 percent destroyed by Irma, but a top actor who is the co-founder of a resort there is already looking at rebuilding.
Actor Robert De Niro, who co-owns Paradise Found Nobu Resort in Barbuda, told “Extra” after the island was hit by Irma that he is looking “forward to working with the Paradise Found Nobu Resort team, the Barbuda Council, GOAB and the entire Barbuda community to successfully rebuild what nature has taken away from us.”
De Niro is behind a US $250 million refurbishment of the K Club site, left derelict for years but now undergoing reconstruction as the Paradise Found Nobu Resort.
Richard Branson Says Necker In The BVI Is Devastated
Virgin Group Founder, Richard Branson, says Necker Island on the BVI felt the effects of Hurricane Irma and sustained extensive damage. He said they are still accessing the extent of the damage.
“I have never seen anything like this hurricane,” he posted on Virgin.com Thursday. “Necker and the whole area have been completely and utterly devastated. We are still assessing the damage, but whole houses and trees have disappeared. Outside of the bunker, bathroom and bedroom doors and windows have flown 40 feet away. I’m speaking these words from a satellite phone that is just about working, but all other communications are down.”
