June 30, 2017: The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has released its 2017 World Drug Report regarding the production, distribution, and consumption of illegal substances on a global scale. Here are six fast facts from the report on cannabis/marijuana in the Caribbean and Latin America you should know:

1: In South America, the Caribbean and Central America, the most frequently reported source countries of cannabis herb were Colombia and Paraguay, followed by Jamaica.

2: The largest areas of eradicated cannabis cultivation over the period 2010-2015 were reported by Mexico.

3: The largest quantities of cannabis plants seized were reported by Bolivia and Peru, followed by Jamaica.

4: The fourth largest numbers of cannabis plants eradicated were reported by Paraguay.

5: In 2015, almost two thirds (64 per cent) of the total quantity of cannabis herb seized worldwide was seized in the Americas, most notably in Mexico.

6: There are only around 610,000 marijuana connoisseurs in Jamaica, a country that is home to   people.
