News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Nov. 5, 2020: After a hard fought battle, a Caribbean immigrant on Wednesday lost the fight for the 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by Republican Congressman Peter King in Long Island, NY.

Jamaican Jackie Gordon, a veteran running on the Democratic line, lost to Republican Andrew Garbarino, who declared himself the winner yesterday with 58 percent of the votes or 157,001votes.

Gordon was lagging behind with just over 41 percent of the votes or 111,204 votes.

King represented the district for 14 terms and 28 years as a United States Congressman.

Garbarino is now another of the House pick-ups for Republicans.

Gordon, of Copiague, wanted to continue her life of service. She has been a military police officer, a Wilson Tech guidance counselor and a Babylon town councilwoman.
