News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Dec. 28, 2017: Barbadian star Rihanna is paying tribute to her slain cousin while weighing in on gun violence in the Caribbean and globally.

The singer turned actress and entrepreneur took to Instagram late Tuesday night, Dec. 26, with an emotional tribute to her 21-year-old cousin and on Wednesday, posted a video featuring the young Barbadian.

According to police, Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne was shot multiple times around 7 p.m. local time on Boxing Day. He was reportedly walking by a track near his home in St. Michael, Barbados when he was shot by an unidentified man who subsequently fled the scene. Authorities are still searching for the suspect.

“RIP cousin… can’t believe it was just last night that I held you in my arms! never thought that would be the last time I felt the warmth in your body!!! Love you always man!,” the singer posted along with the hashtag “#endgunviolence.”

Alleyne’s killing comes as crime has taken an upswing across the Caribbean. Gun crime has increased 57 percent in Barbados in comparison to this time last year, according to Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police responsible for crime, Colvin Bishop.
