News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. June 15, 2018: Retired Jamaican Olympian star, Usain Bolt, earned man-of-the-match honors Sunday even though he could not help his World XI side to a win at Soccer Aid 2018.
World XI lost in a 4-3 penalty shootout loss to England in the charity match. Bolt captained the side and gave a decent performance, even putting the ball in the back of the 28th minute though the goal was called back for offside.
He found the goal in the 39th minute again but fired his shot just wide. Bolt did end up managing to give his team the lead but later saw the effort cancelled out as the England team took the lead then won the shootout.
In regular time England took the lead through former national striker Darren Bent and freestyle footballer Jeremy Lynch doubled their lead soon after. The World XI hit back, however, and led the match after goals by Robbie Keane, Juan Sebastian Veron and Clarence Seedorf, but Michael Owen showed a bit of sharp finishing to equalize with only minutes left and send the game into a shootout which left England the winners.
Bolt’s appearance comes as he fell to 45th on the Forbes list of highest-earning athletes for the year, with last year’s reported earnings coming up to US$34.2 million.
