News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Oct. 6, 2017: A single Caribbean athlete has been nominated this year for the 2017 IAAF World Athletics Awards.

Jamaican Olympian Omar McLeod is the lone athlete from the region this year to be nominated for the title of 2017 World Athlete of the Year.

He is among ten top male athletes globally. There are no Caribbean female athletes nominated this year. McLeod is the World 110-m hurdles champion and the IAAF Diamond League champion.

A three-way voting process will determine the finalists.

Fans can vote online via the IAAF’s social media platforms – Facebook or Twitter. Voting closes on October 16th.

The winner will be announced at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2017 in Monaco on Friday, November 24th.
