News Americas, MIAMI, FL, Fri. April 27, 2018: The US’ top sprinters will face-off against some of the Caribbean’s best in the highly anticipated USA Vs. The World Showdown at the Penn Relays this Saturday.
USA Track and Field announced the “USA vs. the World” will feature six relays – three each for men and women on Saturday at Franklin Field. The events this year are the 4×100, 4×400 and sprint medley.
Justin Gatlin and Wallace Spearmon, two former Olympians who are long-time performers at the Penn Relays, have been named to the U.S. team’s relay pools. Other runners who are part of the U.S. relay pool are Michael Berry, Leshon Collins, Kim Duncan, Cordero Gray, Remontay McClain, Tawanna Meadows and Calvin Smith.
The US side will face Jamaica as well as teams from Guyana, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago.
Once again, Jamaica will provide the toughest competition for the United States. Penn Relays veterans Kerron Stewart (six USA vs. the World victories), Sherone Simpson (three) and Nesta Carter (two) are listed in the pool for Jamaica. Other possible participants include Oshane Bailey, Schillonie Calvert-Powell, Gayon Evans and Christine Day.
Some 50 Caribbean Schools For 2018 Penn Relays
Some 50 high schools and colleges from the Caribbean are also facing off against many US colleges and high school runners as Team Jamaica Bickle continues for another year to serve hot meals to the Caribbean runners while providing transportation and medical care.
