News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. June 9 2017: While US Census forms currently does not allow Caribbean immigrants to self-identify, the agency’s American Community Survey, (ACS), does implement a partial survey of the foreign-born population in the United States, including immigrants from CARICOM countries. Here is the Census’ recent estimated count of top 5 list of people of Caribbean ancestry, from the most to the least, according to a News Americas Now analysis:

1: Jamaica

Jamaican immigrants and those with Jamaican ancestry are estimated to make up the majority of the Caribbean population in the U.S. with the ACS putting the number at 1,097,196.

2: Haiti

In the number two spot is Haitians, with the Census putting the number of Haitians across the US at 1,062,550.

3: Guyana

Coming in at third is Guyanese, with an estimated 251,101living across the US according to the Census data.

4: Trinidad & Tobago

In the fourth spot are immigrants from Trinidad and Tobago with the Census putting their total at 217,584.

5: British West Indies

Rounding out the top 5 are nationals of the British West Indies, which includes Turks & Caicos, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands. The Census puts their tally at 104,817.
