The 2015 Jamaican team grabbed 85 medals at last year’s CARIFTA Games. Can they top it this year?

News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Mar. 18, 2016: The countdown has begun to the 45th CARIFTA Games, set for the newly built Athletic Stadium in Grenada from March 26-28, 2016.

There are 26 participating nations in 2016 CARIFTA Games. They include athletes from: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, Curacao, Dominica, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Maarteen, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands and the United States Virgin Islands.

This is Grenada is second hosting of the Games, having  hosted the  29th Games  in  2000  where Grenada ranked 4th with 18 medals (5 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze).

Jamaica, which is always the country to beat at CARIFTA, has already named  73 athletes to represent the country at the Games. They include defending Under-20 400- metre champion, Akeem Bloomfield of Kingston College , heads the 19 athletes named in this category, while also included here are Jauavney James of St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), impressive winner of the 400 metres hurdles at the Trials, long jumper O’Brien Wasome of Jamaica College and thrower Warren Barrett of Calabar High.
