News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Mon. July 23, 2012: Foreign Minister of El Salvador, Hugo Martínez, is in Washington, D.C., where he met today with Secretary General of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza.
During the meeting, the two discussed current issues in the region and, in particular, El Salvador. On this point, Foreign Minister Martínez explained that he is working to find a way out of the existing conflict between the judicial and legislative branches, and that President Mauricio Funes has made public the call for a dialogue between the different political actors in the country.
The chief representative of the OAS welcomed the initiative of the Salvadoran President and said “dialogue and conciliation are the most favorable, effective and lasting ways to resolve an issue like this one.” Secretary General Insulza urged all parties to answer the call of President Funes and engage in dialogue in the search for a solution in the shortest time possible.
The leader of the hemispheric organization declared to Foreign Minister Martínez his willingness and that of the organization he directs to support the Salvadoran government in any way necessary throughout the process.
