News Americas, CHICAGO, IL, Mon. July 8, 2019: Mexico showed just how “bad” they are as hombres on U.S. soil Sunday night as they beat the U.S. men’s soccer team in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup finale.
Jonathan Dos Santos scored in the 73rd minute to give his team the win and their eighth title in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Despite missing their top three forwards, El Tri dominated possession against an American team playing its first tournament under a new coach, Gregg Berhalter.
Both Christian Pulisic and Jozy Altidore missed golden opportunities in the opening minutes to set the tone for the USMNT. Jordan Morris also had a header cleared off the line by Andres Guardado, while Hector Moreno threw his body in front of a Cristian Roldan chance that would’ve tied the match in its dying minutes.
The failure meant the US had to settle for a second place finish despite a valiant effort throughout the competition.
