News Americas, MARIGOT, Saint Martin, Tues. Mar. 28, 2017: The French Caribbean Collectivite of Saint Martin has a new President.

Daniel Gibbs on Sunday night became the island’s President-elect after his party, Team Daniel Gibbs 2017 captured 5,696 votes in second round voting in the island’s territorial council election.

As in the first round, voter turnout remained with a mere 45.2 percent voting according to SXM News. But the orange and green party still managed to prevail in all of  the 19 polling stations. Coming in second was the beating back the Alliance for Hope, Justice, and Prosperity led by Loui Mussington and Jules Charville and the MVP led by Alain Richardson.

Gibbs will replace current President Aline Hanson, his former teacher and colleague, who has been battling with health issues in recent years.

Gibbs on Sunday night thanked his supporters and relatives and promised to deliver to the people of Saint Martin what he promised them on the campaign trail.

He also said while his team is ready to work, he will welcome anyone with open arms that are ready and willing to work in the best interest of St. Martin.
