News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Weds. July 13, 2016: A Gofundme page set up to raise funds to help support the family of slain Mexican American Dallas Cop Patrick Zamarripa has passed USD 140,000.
Some 2,020 people contributed to the fund in just four days for Zamarripa, who was described as “a kind, funny, loving, and heroic human being.” The total raise is set for USD 200,000.
“He had an ability to make a joke about ANYTHING. He loved his Cowboys and Rangers. He loved his country. He loved his Raven brothers in the military from DET21. Most of all, he loved all of his family and beautiful girlfriend Kristi along with their two perfect children Lyncoln and Dylan,” friend Alex Witt, who set up the page wrote.
Witt said every “penny donated” will go directly to help Zamarripa’s funeral expenses as well as to helping his family including his two children and girlfriend.
Zamarripa is a former Navy reservist and Marine veteran turned Police Officer who along with four others were killed on Thursday night, July 7th, by veteran Micah Xavier Johnson of Mesquite, Texas.
Zamarripa, 33, was killed in a hail of bullets from the shooter who took aim from an elevated position at police officers providing security at a Black Lives Matter protest in the downtown area of Dallas.
His family moved from Mexico to Texas for a better life. He was born in Texas and went on to join the Navy in 2001. He served with Mobile Security Squadron 21 in Portsmouth, Virginia, at Naval Air Station Pensacola, and with Naval Security Force, Manama, Bahrain, before transferring to the Navy Reserve in 2009. He was currently assigned to Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 13, Gulfport, Mississippi, according to a bio provided by Navy officials and was a Master-at-Arms 2nd Class.
