News Americas, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Thurs. Dec. 1, 2011: Guyana opposition party, A Partnership for National Unity, (A.P.N.U), is urging the Guyana Elections Commission to ensure all results declared are verifiable by Statements of Poll.

A.P.N.U this morning, said in a statement, that reports continued to be received of questionable discrepancies as well as the tampering and unauthorized modification of Statements of Poll, particularly for Region 4.

And it said it has dispatched a letter to Gocool Boodhoo, chief elections officer, to insist that the final declaration should result from an “all party verification” of the SOP’s for Region 4 and any other region where serious discrepancies are found to exist.

Preliminary results show the ruling People Progressive Party/Civic in the lead followed by APNU at a close second and the Alliance for Change at a distant third.
