News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Aug. 17, 2018: Nationals of Haiti will now have to apply for a tourist visa in order to visit a South American country.

Argentina officials say they will reinstate a tourist visa for Haitian nationals at the end of this month. The decision they say come after the government said some Haitians are abusing the process currently in place.

Under the current policy, Haitian tourists had to have valid travel documents, a hotel reservation or a letter of accommodation and enough money for a stay not exceeding 90 days. For their part, students got a student visa that also allowed them to work during their studies.

But the National Directorate of Migration in Argentina said that many the Haitians have pretended to be tourist and are staying on in the country illegally, way past the 90 days.
