After surveying the devastation with Governor Kenneth E. Mapp, Pence, who was accompanied by his wife, Karen, and other Cabinet members, including Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao said: “We wanted to be here with you in the U.S. Virgin Islands to say very plainly and simply: We are with you today, we will be with you tomorrow, we will be with you every day until the U.S. Virgin Islands comes all the way back. That is our pledge to each and every one of you.”

And he added, “This is the Virgin Islands, but it is the U.S. Virgin Islands, and we’re going to see it all the way through.”

Pence also spoke at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church, surrounded by local, state and federal officials o but unlike his boss, he did not attempt to throw anything – not even paper towels – to anyone
