News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Fri. Aug. 16, 2013: Latino entertainers are set to be honored tonight in Hollywood as the 28th Annual Imagen Awards gets underway at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
George Lopez and Selena Gomez are among the nominees of the Awards, which aims to “recognize and reward positive portrayals of Latinos in all forms of media” – will honor Latino entertainers and programming across more than fifteen categories, including “Best Primetime Television Program,” “Best Actor/Television,” “Best Actress/Television,” “Best Documentary,” “Best National Informational Program” and “Best Web Series.”
Lopez has been nominated for “Best Primetime Program: Special or Movie-of-the-Week” withhis comedy special “It’s Not Me, It’s You” while 21-year-old Gomez has been nominated for her series “The Wizards Return: Alex vs. Alex” in the “Best Actress/Television” category.
Mexican singer Jenni Rivera has been honored with a nomination as well, as the post-mortem special on her legacy, “We Love Jenni,” is up for an award in the “Best Primetime Program: Special or Movie-of-the Week” category.
And some of Hollywood’s hottest Latino leading men are competing in the “Best Actor/Television” category, with nominees Benjamin Bratt (“Private Practice”), Guillermo Diaz (“Scandal”), Jon Huertas (“Castle) and Danny Pino (“Law & Order: SVU”). And Latinas are well represented in categories like “Best Supporting Actress/Television,” with nominees like Jordana Brewster(“Dallas), Constance Marie (“Switched at Birth), Gina Torres (“Suits), Wanda De Jesus (“Sons of Anarchy”), Aubrey Plaza (“Parks and Recreation”) and Julie Gonzalo (“Dallas”).
The 28th Annual Imagen Awards will be aired as a special on select PBS stations.
