News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Dec. 15, 2017: The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says it is investigating the death of a 42-year-old Haitian immigrant who was shot by a Broward Sheriff’s deputy moments after he attacked another deputy.
Both deputies have so far been placed on administrative leave, as per department policy, in the shooting death of Jean Pedro Pierre of the Sunset Hills Condominium, 3610 NW 21st St. in Lauder Lakes.
Cellphone footage showing Pierre being fatally shot after attacking a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy at a Lauderdale Lakes apartment complex went viral Friday. The video shows the 42-year-old dragging Deputy Sean Youngward by his left leg. At the time, Youngward was responding to a report of a disturbance at the Condominium. A second Broward Sheriff’s deputy then shoots Pierre as he advanced towards him.
Pierre, a father of five, an entrepreneur and a one-time political candidate in Haiti, later died at Broward Health Medical Center on Dec. 6, 2017. His sister, Guilaine Jean, and his entire family is devastated. Pierre’s daughter, Shania, told the TV channel that her father had a stroke a few years ago and suffered from medical problems ever since.
