The Reggae Boyz took the silver and made history for the Caribbean region despite the 1-3 loss.

News Americas, PHILADELPHIA, PA, Mon. July 27, 2015: Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz had to settle for second place last night in their historic debut for the small island and the Caribbean at the CONCACAF Gold Cup Finals after their were outplayed by an experienced Mexican side. But despite their 1-3 loss to Mexico, Jamaican fans were full of love for their team.

Fans flocked to social media last night to voice their continued love for the Boyz’s effort at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field Sunday night. Mexico recorded its seventh Gold Cup championship and its first since 2011. Andres Guardado, Jesus Corona and Oribe Peralta scored for El Tri.

Darren Mattocks pulled one back for Jamaica in the 80th minute but it was a little too late.

Jamaica’s prime minister via Jamaica House congratulated the team posting: “Well done Reggae Boyz, you have made us proud.”

Jamaica’s biggest mobile carrier Digicel Jamaica ‏insists the team has done well despite the mistakes made and the loss against the tough Mexican challenge.

“Well Done #ReggaeBoyz. You are still #Extraordinary to our nation,” the company tweeted.

Many took comfort in the fact that the team entered the history books as the first ever Caribbean squad to reach the Gold Cup finals.

Another Jamaican company, Jamaican Power Supply, tweeted “#Respect to our ReggaeBoyz 1st Caribbean Nation to make it to the final of CONCACAFGoldCup & score! Go #TeamJamaica!”

While fans continued to tweet words of encouragement and pride.

“Nothing to be ashamed of…history is made …that was your mission this time. Next #ReggaeBoyz team will have to complete the history,” Emily Shields stated.

While Nicola Hawkes tweeted: “Still love unu….. #ReggaeBoyz 1st Caribbean team to qualify for @CONCACAF  #GoldCupFinal #ProudJamaican #ChinUp.”

“I still love my team,” Jamaican-born, US-based Team Jamaica Bickle founder Irwine Clare told NAN last night from his seat in the Philadelphia stadium. Still he admitted: “We were outplayed.”

“Big Ups to the ReggaeBoyz,” added Michael Dunns.
