News Americas, RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, Mon. Aug. 1, 2011: Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz will have to face the U.S. again, this time in the semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifier for the 2014 World Cup.
This follows the FIFA draw in Brazil ahead of the Cup Saturday.
The United States was drawn into Group A along with Jamaica and the winners of Group E and Group F from round two. Mexico and Costa Rica were drawn into Group B with the winners of groups A and B while Honduras and Cuba rounded out the field in Group C to be joined by winners of Group D and C.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the hexagonal with the top three teams earning a place in Brazil while the fourth-placed finisher faces a home-and-away playoff with an Asian team in an intercontinental playoff. The USA faces an easy road to the hexagonal with 115th-ranked Guatemala its highest-ranked challenger.
The CONCACAF groups are as follows:
Group A
United States and Jamaica plus two qualifiers: (1) Grenada or Guatemala or St. Vincent and the Grenadines or Belize; (2) Haiti or Antigua and Barbuda or Curacao or U.S. Virgin Islands
Group B
Mexico and Costa Rica plus two qualifiers: (1) El Salvador or Suriname or Cayman Islands or Dominican Republic; (2) Trinidad and Tobago or Guyana or Barbados or Bermuda
Group C
Honduras and Cuba plus two qualifiers: (1) Canada or St. Kitts and Nevis or Puerto Rico or St. Lucia; (2) Panama or Dominica or Nicaragua or Bahamas.
