News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Tues. Dec. 17, 2013: Jamaican celebrities like Usain Bolt and reggae singer Shaggy and Ziggy Marley took to Twitter Monday night to urge their followers to vote to ensure Tessanne Chin takes the title of The Voice at the finals of the NBC reality competition tonight.
“Mr. Boombastic” Shaggy, who reportedly urged and arranged for Chin to audition for the show, urged his 81,000 plus fans to vote.
“#ITS ALL OR NOTHING TODAY PEOPLE WE NEED VOTES!!!!,” the singer said via Instagram.
“#TEAMTESSANNE@NBCTHEVOICE@THEBESTESS WE HAVE TO TAKE THIS HOME I NEED YOU TO GET UR #SISTERS UR #COUSINS UR#GRANDMOTHER WHOME SO EVER FROM DEM CAN VOTE AND BUY ITUNES WE NEED THEM!!! LETA GO!!!!!,” he added.
Chin was apparently signed to Shaggy’s label before her big break.
Bolt, with three million plus followers on Twitter, the singer also was on a voting push. “Go vote for @Tessanne and buy the song on iTunes,” he wrote last night after insisting via Instagram earlier in the evening: “Listen to me every time i listen to @tessannesawyer I feel like i can sing.”
Ziggy Marley for his part was more subtle, sending “best of luck” to @Tessanne.
“Big up sista!,” he added.
Chin last night delivered three stellar performances, beginning with her audition number by Pink, ‘Try’ and her duet with Levine on The Beatles “I’ll Be There.”
But the show stopper was yet to come as Chin, donning a red gown, showed why she is in the finale with a phenomenal rendition of the Houston classic that showcased her high vocal range superbly but was also laden with emotions that tugged at the heart and left many, including her fans in awe.
“I think everything you do draws me in,” said a beaming Coach Levine. “Your ability is so amazing.”
Fans will now have to wait until tonight at 9 p.m. EST to find out who wins or who goes home. Competing against Chin are fellow Team mate Will Champlin and Team Christina Aguilera’s Jacquie Lee. Voting will be open until 11 EST today. The contestant with the most vote will win the competition.
