News Americas, ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Tues. Feb. 19, 2013: The man who faced allegations of corruption during his reign as prime minister of Grenada in 2007, has been returned by voters to the helm of the Spice Island as PM.

Mitchell’s opposition New National Party, (NNP), was tonight reported as the winner from Tuesday’s election. Reports from Grenada say Mitchell is on the verge of repeating the results of the 1999 general election. The NNP reportedly won all 15 seats.

THe Prime Minister-elect’s first order of business was to declare a public holiday on Friday February 22, 2013 for the first One Day International between West Indies and Zimbabwe at the Grenada National Stadium.

In a statement on social media, the National Democratic Congress said it “wishes to congratulate the NNP on their victory.”

“We did it!” the NNP wrote in a post on its Facebook page. “We are ready to deliver a better future for all.”

The NDC’s loss followed a tumultuous 2012 that saw the resignation of a number of Cabinet officials from Prime Minister Tillman Thomas’ government, most recently Foreign Minister Karl Hood.
