News Americas, ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Weds. Dec. 7, 2011: LIAT pilots have again disrupted flights this morning.

A company statement said all pilots who were scheduled to work this morning, Wednesday December 07, 2011, have again called in sick.

As a result of the industrial action, all of the company’s morning services have been disrupted.

“This is also likely to affect the rest of today’s flights,” the statement said.

Unions representing all non-management staff at regional airline LIAT are demanding an immediate reinstatement of Chairman of Leeward Islands Airline Pilots Association (LIALPA) Michael Blackburn, who was fired on Monday.

Captain Blackburn was fired with immediate effect, prompting a sickout by all his fellow cockpit crew and cancellation of all trips for two days, an estimated 110 flights system-wide per day.
