News Americas, LOS ANGELES, CA, Mon. Oct. 28, 2013: Michael Jackson’s Caribbean-born doctor is a free man again at age 60.
Dr. Conrad Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter n November 2011 after he treated Jackson in 2009 with the powerful surgical anesthetic drug propyfol at his rented mansion in Holmby Hills, was released from the jail at 12:01 a.m. Monday, authorities confirmed.
His release in the wee hours of the morning made sure he eluded some die-hard Jackson fans and TV cameras.
The LA County Sherrif Department said Murray was released to “representatives,” and that such releases are allowed on a “case-by-case” basis to ensure certain inmates’ safety and security.
Murray, was born in the Spice Isle and later lived in Trinidad before moving to the U.S., was released from jail two years early due to good behavior.
Now his lawyers are looking to get his medical license back. They have filed petitions in Texas to have his medical license reinstated.
Murrary was born in St. Andrews, Grenada and at the age of seven, Murray relocated to Trinidad and Tobago to live with his mother, where he became a citizen and finished high school.
After high school he volunteered as an elementary school teacher in Trinidad, an experience he followed with work as a customs clerk and an insurance underwriter in order to pay for his college education.
At the age of 19 he bought his first house, then later sold it for a decent profit to support his university tuition in the United States.
In 1980, two years after first visiting Houston and getting a chance to introduce himself to his father, Murray returned to Texas to enroll at Texas Southern University, where in just three years he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in pre-medicine and biological sciences. From there, Murray followed in his father’s footsteps and attended the primarily African-American Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.
