Rep. Jared Brossett of New Orleans.
News Americas, NEW ORLEANS, LA, Tues. Dec. 4, 2012: A New Orleans politician is urging his constituents to send donations and Christmas cheer to Hurricane Sandy victims in New York City.

New Orleans State Representative, Jared Brossett, has teamed up with the St. Paul’s Homecoming Center to collect donations to send to the victims of Hurricane Sandy in Brooklyn, Coney Island, Staten Island, and the Jersey Shore.

Brossett, Chairman of the Select Committee on Hurricane Recovery and board member of SPHC, is encouraging the community to help fill an 18-wheeler, with new or gently-used items, that will travel to the Bread of Life Church in Long Island, New York.

Toys, bed linens, towels, blankets, diapers, baby formula, strollers, books, games, household appliances, cleaning supplies, sweaters, coats, and warm weather clothing are all being collected. A truck will leave New Orleans on December 15th and arrive in New York on December 17, just in time for the holidays.

“Eighty percent of District 97 was underwater due to Hurricane Katrina. As we continue to rebuild our community, it is important to remember those that aided us when we were in need, and assist those that have suffered from Superstorm Sandy,” Brossett said. “I am proud to be a part of this effort to bring children’s toys, household items, and baby supplies to families, in time for the holidays. I urge my colleagues and residents in District 97 to participate and make a donation as well.”

“New Orleans has benefited from thousands of East Coast volunteers to help rebuild, now it’s our turn to give them a helping hand. As St. Paul’s has done since Katrina, we are committed to bringing our disaster recovery efforts wherever the need remains,” added Connie Uddo, St. Paul’s Homecoming Center Executive Director.

Residents of several areas of New York City are still trying to recover from the effects of Sandy, which tore through the Big Apple and New Jersey on October 29th, ripping homes off their foundations, flooding streets and houses and killing over 43 in NYC alone.
