News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. June 21, 2013: Dear Mr. President,
The independent Congressional Budget Office just gave lawmakers 197 billion reasons to pass immigration reform now on June 18th with the release of its own score of the bipartisan Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act immigration bill currently before the Senate.
So why are Republican leaders like Marco Rubio still stuck on the argument of closing the borders before 11 million undocumented nationals can become permanent resident?
Frank Vandersloot, president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and himself a Republican answered this succinctly on Tuesday, when he told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that some lawmakers seem bent on listening to radical groups “who lack commonsense and who are drinking somebody’s kool aid.”
He further added that the passage of immigration reform was a “commonsense” thing to do. What Vandersloot should have said was these 11 million who have become a political football in this endless decade of debate over how to solve the illegal immigration nightmare are actually America’s saving economic grace.
Just listen to the CBO report. According to the analysts, legalizing the undocumented and passing a comprehensive immigration reform bill “would decrease federal budget deficits by $197 billion over the 2014–2023 period and by roughly $700 billion over the 2024–2033 period.”
Further said the CBO report: “The cost estimate also shows that implementing the legislation would result in net discretionary costs of $22 billion over the 2014–2023 period and $20 billion to $25 billion over the 2024–2033 period.”
And, as the authors of this report also stated: “S. 744 would boost economic output … (increasing) real (inflation-adjusted) GDP … by 3.3 percent in 2023 and by 5.4 percent in 2033; capital investment would rise primarily because the return that investors would earn on a given amount of investment would be higher under the legislation than under current law (and) S. 744 would lead to slightly higher productivity of both labor and capital because the increase in immigration—particularly of highly skilled immigrants—would tend to generate additional technological advancements, such as new inventions and improvements in production processes.”
So what will Tea Party right wingers say now that they have been slammed with the economic facts of this report on the head and caught with their pants down?
The answer lies in the color of those derrieres that the pants have dropped off of, and the fact that many of those who need this so called “amnesty” don’t share the same creamy, texture as those protesting on the lawn of the capitol on Tuesday. For the fear being fed out in ladles of kool aid is if all these millions of non-White immigrants become legal permanent residents of this country and eventually citizens, there goes with it White power and the power of the Tea Party and GOP. That’s the real fear!
Respectfully,
