News Americas PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, Monday July 18, 2011: New low-cost regional Caribbean carrier, REDjet, is set to officially begin flying to and from Trinidad and Tobago on July 28th.

The Barbados-based low cost carrier has finally been given the thumbs up from authorities in the twin-island republic, who had initially expressed concern about safety, according to The Trinidad Express.

The carrier reached a compromise was reached between the airline and the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority after a court hearing on Friday, July 15.

REDjet had originally planned to start flying to Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago on May 8th but faced tremendous obstacles.

The airline currently flies between Barbados and Guyana at base fares starting from US$9.99 and is awaiting approval to fly to and from Jamaica.
