News Americas, CASTRIES, Saint Lucia, Tues. July 26, 2011: In 2009, late singer Amy Winehouse spent several months in the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. On Monday, she was remembered with sadness by the island’s tourism minister.

“We have lost a good friend and the world has lost a great talent,” said Saint Lucia’s Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Senator Allen Chastanet of the Grammy Award-winning singer who was found dead in her flat in London on Saturday. She was 27 and an autopsy into the cause of death yesterday was inconclusive.

Recalling the popular singer’s generosity towards local residents, Minister Chastanet said, “We were fortunate to see another side of Amy, and will be forever grateful for the acts of kindness and compassion she extended to less fortunate Saint Lucians during her visits with us.

“Saint Lucians join me in extending our condolences to Amy’s family, friends and fans during this difficult period.”

Winehouse had also performed at the 2009 St. Lucia Jazz festival.
