News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Dec. 28, 2018: It’s almost time to ring in the New Year and why not do it in Caribbean style anywhere in the world by simply bringing some of the Caribbean drinks into your New Year’s Eve party, hang out, lime or solo ball drop moment?. Here are six you should try.
1: Caribbean Rum Punch
Rum and the Caribbean is almost synonymous so anything with rum will do this holiday, especially the Caribbean rum punch. Here’s the recipe:
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups pineapple juice
2 1/2 cups orange juice
1 cup rum
1/2 cup dark Caribbean rum
1/4 cup coconut rum
1/4 cup fresh lime juice
3 tablespoons grenadine syrup
Method
- Stir all the ingredients together in a large pitcher or punch bowl.
- Serve over ice or blend with ice and enjoy!
2: The Hurricane
Ingredients
2 ounces light Caribbean rum
2 ounces dark Caribbean rum
2 ounces passion fruit juice
1ounce orange juice
1/2 lime
1 tablespoon simple syrup
1 tablespoon grenadine
Garnish: maraschino cherry
Garnish: orange slice
Method
Gather all the ingredients
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, squeeze the juice from half a lime.
Pour the remaining ingredients into the shaker.
Shake well, until the outside of the shaker tin becomes frosty.
Strain into a hurricane glass.
3: Pina Colada
Ingredients
½ fresh pineapple, peeled, cut into 1½-inch pieces
6 ounces sweetened cream of coconut (preferably Coco López)
2 ounces unsweetened coconut milk
8 ounces white Caribbean rum
2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 ounces dark Caribbean rum (optional)
Maraschino cherries and lime wedges (for serving)
Method
Place pineapple pieces in a resealable plastic bag, laying them flat.
Freeze until solid, at least 3 hours.
Shake cream of coconut and coconut milk in their cans before measuring.
Purée pineapple, cream of coconut, coconut milk, white rum, lime juice, and 3 cups ice (about 15 oz.) in a blender until smooth.
Transfer blender cup to freezer and freeze until mixture is thickened (it should be the consistency of a milkshake), 25–35 minutes.
Blend again until mixture is the perfect slushy frozen drink consistency. Divide among glasses.
Top off each with ½ oz. dark rum, if using, and garnish each with a cherry and lime wedge.
4: Bahama Mama
Ingredients
1-ounce dark rum
1/2-ounce coconut rum
1/2-ounce banana liqueur
1/2-ounce grenadine
1-ounce pineapple juice
1-ounce orange juice
1/2-ounce lemon-lime soda
Garnish: Pineapple wedge and Maraschino cherry
Method
Layer ingredients in a tall glass filled with ice.
Garnish with pineapple wedge and cherry.
5: Dark and Stormy
Ingredients
2 ounces dark Caribbean rum
1/2-ounce fresh lime juice (optional)
Ice
1 candied ginger slice
3 ounces chilled Caribbean ginger beer
1 lime wheel
Method
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add the rum and lime juice and shake well.
Strain into an ice-filled Collins glass.
Stir in the ginger beer.
Skewer the ginger slice and lime wheel and garnish the cocktail.
6: Cuba Libre
Ingredients
1 lime
2 ounces dark Caribbean rum
Coca-Cola
Method
Squeeze a lime into a Collins or highball glass.
Drop half the spent lime shell into the glass and muddle the oils into the lime juice.
Add ice and rum. Top with cola and stir briefly.
