News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Aug. 5, 2016: Trinidad & Tobago ‘King of Soca’ Machel Montano can add a new title to his resume – that of actor!

The soca sensation is making his acting debut in a movie set to be released today, Friday, Aug. 5th called Bazodee.

Bazodee  is a new style Bollywood musical love story with a distinctly Caribbean island flavor. It is being released by Indiepelago Films to 200 AMC screens nationwide and was filmed in Trinidad and Tobago.

In the movie Montano plays Lee de Leon who gets between an engaged Indian woman and her fiancée. It tells the tale of Anita Ponchouri (Natale Perera), the dutiful Indian daughter of a deep-in-debt businessman who is about to marry a wealthy Londoner (Staz Nair). A chance encounter with local Trinidadian singer, Lee de Leon (Soca music star Machel Montano) sets things askew. In search of a muse, de Leon agrees to perform at the engagement party. Unable to deny their mutual attraction, and with the excitement of Carnival approaching, Anita must now choose between the answer to her family’s financial prayers and the possibility of real love.

The film also features legendary Indian actor Kabir Bedi, who plays Anita’s father, Ram Panchouri.

“It’s a film of fun,” Bedi said in a recent interview with an Indian news outlet. “It’s Calypso, it’s Soca music, it’s the glory of the West Indies setting and of course Machel Montano’s incredible music that takes it to another level. It’s a fun film to see for the family.”

Montano is also featured on the movie’s sound track.
