Solange was among 250 people in the rally and said she will be pushing for a federal investigation.

“I ask all of you here today to let this be a starting point on a long journey for equality,” Solange Knowles said as she carried a sign with a quote from the late Malcolm X that read: “I am for truth no matter who tells it. I’m for justice no matter who it’s for or against.”

Solange’s rally was just among several happening across the city from Times Square to Harlem as thousands of New Yorkers expressed their anger at the Florida verdict for Trayvon Martin’s killer.

Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain who was acquitted by a Florida court of murdering an unarmed black teenager could now face prosecution under Federal race-relations laws, the US Department Of Justice said Sunday night after it announced a review of his case.

President Barack Obama for his part issued a statement from the White House calling for calm on all sides while the Department Of Justice said federal prosecutors would now examine the case for a Federal prosecution under civil rights legislation.
