News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Jan. 5, 2018: If you are wondering where countries in the Americas stack up on the doing business ranks, then we’ve got you covered. Here is the top ten list as compiled from the latest Forbes ‘Best Countries for Business’ list:
1: Canada
The North American nation of Canada took the number one spot on our Top 10 Best Countries In The Americas For Business list, even though it ranked 5th globally on the Forbes List. With a GDP of $1,530 B the country scored top marks for low corruption and red tape and scored high on investor protection and trade freedom.
2: USA
The US came in at second on our list but only 12th overall. With a GDP of $18,620 B, the North American giant lost points for red tape, investor protection and a tax burden. But it scored high on innovation and technology.
3: Chile
Taking the third spot on the Top 10 Best Countries In The Americas For Business list is the South American nation of Chile, which, however, ranked at 33 globally. With a GDP of $247 B, the country scored poorly on taxes, investor protection, innovation and red tape
4: Costa Rica
With a GDP of $58 billion, the Central American nation of Costa Rica comes in at fourth on top 10 Best Countries in the Americas for Business list even though it ranks 45 globally. Costa Rica has attracted one of the highest levels of foreign direct investment per capita in Latin America but it scored low on investor protection and trade and monetary freedom.
5: Uruguay
The South American nation of Uruguay ranked at 5th on our list but only 54th globally. The country, with a GDP of $52 B, scored poorly on investor protection and trade and monetary freedom.
6: Mexico
Ranking at 6th on the Top 10 Best Countries In The Americas For Business list even though it ranked 57th globally is the Central American nation of Mexico. With a GDP of $1,047 B, Mexico scored poorly on corruption taxes and red tape.
7: Peru
Coming in at 7th on the Top 10 Best Countries In The Americas For Business list and 60th globally is the South American nation of Peru. With a GDP of $195 B, the country scored poorly on taxes, corruption and red tape.
8: Colombia
The South American nation of Colombia took the 8th spot on our Top 10 Best Countries In The Americas For Business list, but ranked 61st globally. It scored poorly on taxes, monetary freedom and red tape.
9: Panama
Coming in at 64th globally but ninth on our list is Panama. With a GDP of $55 B, the country ranked poorly on investor protection, taxes and trade freedom.
10: Jamaica
Rounding out the Top 10 Best Countries In The Americas For Business list is the Caribbean nation of Jamaica. With $14 B, the country ranked 72nd on the global business ranks, scoring poorly on taxes, trade freedom and investor protection.
