News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Nov. 22, 2019: Jair Bolsanaro has been called the Trump of Latin America for his far-right ideology and his brash comments, much like the US’ Donald Trump. But now the Brazilian President is adopting Trump’s ‘Make America Great Slogan’ with a ‘Make Brazil Great Again,’ slogan.

Bolsonaro on Wednesday held up a t-shirt that read ‘Make Brazil Great Again’ during the launch of his new party, the Alliance for Brazil, (APB), at a hotel in Brasilia on November 20, 2019.

Bolsonaro left the Social Liberal Party after a disagreement with the party president Luciano Bivar. His APB was launched under the banner of fighting graft and advancing Christian values, a breakaway move that could fragment his base.

The move to ditch the PSL is a risky one for the former army captain, who rode a wave of conservative sentiment in Brazil to win last year’s election. It may take months to formalize the new party and deadlines loom for next year’s elections.

The move comes after freed former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva told thousands of jubilant supporters Saturday that the left can take back Brazil’s presidency in the 2022 election.

“We are going to do a lot of fighting. Fighting is not one day on, then three months off, then back. Fighting is every day,” said da Silva, a 74-year-old who promised to bring the energy of a 30-year-old to the streets.
