News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Aug. 11, 2017: The Caribbean is often castigated as not being LGBTQ friendly but one Caribbean island is proving you cannot paint an entire region with a board brush.
The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico has been named the Best LGBTQ Tribe Rising Star Destination by Trip.com ahead of Mexico, Vienna and Singapore.
Tripsters, who voted, said Puerto Rico is the most gay-friendly island with a host of active hotspots that cater to the LGBTQ community.
San Juan’s Condado and Santurce districts are home to many gay owned/friendly hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs and beaches, while the island of Vieques is an ideal spot for those looking for a quieter getaway.
“Puerto Rico’s outlying islands like Culebra, Mona and Vieques are all opportunities for visitors to get a change of pace and enjoy exotic landscapes and beaches so secluded you’ll feel like you own the place,” Trip.com says.
Atlantic Beach is where many gays gather – mostly in front of Oceano, a gay-owned restaurant and beach hang out. Ocean Park nearby is also gay-friendly but it tends to be full of younger crowds and college students.
