News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. July 8, 2016: The South American nation of Guyana is still trying to find its place in the competitive tourism marketplace but a new hotel in this CARICOM nation has just received its second consecutive World Travel Award.

The Guyana Marriott walked away with the award for “Guyana’s Leading Hotel 2016” at the World Travel Awards Latin America Gala Ceremony 2016 in Peru.

The hotel, located at Block Alpha, Battery Road, Kingston in Georgetown, Guyana, beat out Cara Lodge Guyana, the Pegasus Hotel Guyana and the Regency Suites Hotel for the World Travel Award for a second year.

Last year, the Marriott also won the award ahead of the three hotels. The Guyana Marriott opened in 2015 amidst much controversy. It boosts an outdoor pool, a pool bar and grill, WiFi access, a state-of-the-art fitness centre and picturesque views of the Demerara River. Each room at the hotel offers views of the ocean or Georgetown’s city lights.

The World Travel Awards Latin America, hosted by Peruvian stars Ana Maria Picasso and Manuel Ilich, also saw American carrier Delta Air Lines presented with trophies for United States’ Leading Airline to South America, United States’ Leading Airline to Central America and United States’ Leading Airline to Mexico.
