News Americas, FLUSHING, NY, Thurs. August 30, 2018: A Latin American top seeded tennis player on Wednesday barreled his way into the third round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows Park in Corona, Queens.
Third-seeded Juan Martin del Potro, 29, of the South American nation of Argentina, completed a convincing 6-3, 6-1, 7-6 victory over American Denis Kudla yesterday, despite the heat, to move on in the tourney.
The 2009 champion, back to his best after a series of injuries, won 6-3 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in one hour 56 minutes.
Del Potro, also known as Delpo, will now face Spain’s Fernando Verdasco for a place in the last 16 on Friday, August 31st.
Del Potro began playing tennis at the age of seven with coach Marcelo Gómez. His talent was discovered by Italian ex-tennis professional Ugo Colombini, who accompanied him through the initial phases of his young career and is still today his agent and close friend.
