News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Jan. 13, 2017: CNN host Anthony Bourdain has been making the rounds all over Trinidad and Tobago filming for his show and chowing down on those tricky doubles. For New Yorkers looking to experience Trinidadian food in the city that is home to some 90,000 Trinis, here are three top recommended restaurants in the Big Apple, based on the most positive reviews on Yelp. These are small establishments mainly meant for takeout, where the doubles or roti comes wrapped in paper. But the taste and the cost is worth the trip to travel to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx for these Trini delights. You too can eat like Bourdain without leaving NYC:

Brooklyn

alis-doublesAli’s Trinidad Roti Shop in Brooklyn gets the most Yelps! Foodies rave about the doubles – a common street food in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a sandwich made with two baras (flat fried bread) filled with curry channa (curried chick peas) – as well as the curry and roti here or buss up shot as well as aloo pie – a soft, fried pastry made from flour and water, and filled with boiled, spiced and mashed potatoes and other vegetables like green peas or chana and phlourie – a savoury fritter made from seasoned split pea flour. Fans rave about the shrimp roti but the veggie with soy, the beef and boneless chicken also get top marks. The cost is also very reasonable so take the train to 1267 Fulton St in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and get a taste of Trinidad right in NYC. Ali’s also has a location at 4220 White Plains Rd in the Bronx.

Bronx

feroza-restaurant-trinidadian-food-nycFeroza’s in the Bronx gets top marks for the best Trini food in  the northernmost of the five boroughs of New York City. Fans rave about the beef or curry goat roti as well as the doubles. “The best Roti bar none,” comments one diner. This restaurant is located at 716 Burke Ave, Bronx, NY 10467 near the number 2 train so if you are in the mood for some adventure and want to think of yourself as your own travel host, then take a trip out here and experience Trini food without leaving the city.

The small restaurant gets rave reviews for its chicken, beef, and goat roti as well as its doubles. But the bake and shark is also good here.
